Paraguay 0-0 New Zealand

Paraguay sealed a place in the last sixteen of the World Cup after this drab draw. New Zealand began the match with a chance of qualifying themselves but were unable to reproduce the form that secured draws against Slovakia and Italy, with just one shot on target in the whole match.

New Zealand leave with their heads held high in the knowledge that Shane Smeltz’s early goal against Italy played a big part in the holders finishing bottom of Group F. Paraguay will face Japan in the round of 16 and will have to do a lot better than they did here, with the New Zealand defence restricting them to hopeful shots from distance.
